Grade 9 Life skills : World of Work - Part 2

It should be noted that the world of work is instilled with numerous professions and it is quite significant that an individual is inculcated with sound knowledge about these carrier paths. The present world has undergone a series of revivals both technologically and socially. Thus, there are novel carrier paths and fields that have evolved especially with the dawn of the digital age. Your awareness on these professions will guide you to make a wise choice on the job that suits you the best and it will help you to advance in your carrier without wasting your time and resources. We know that in our country, jobs exist in the state sector and as well as the private sector. (Example: Doctors, Nursing Officers, Teachers, Banking Officers).

 

In addition to that, employment opportunities are available in the social welfare services and these jobs are focused at the provision of social services (Example: Midwife). There are several jobs that have been started or found by oneself. (e.g.: Proprietor) and the jobs that must be performed as employees hired by a particular company or an institute. The teachers, lecturers, administrators, management assistants and clerks can be cited as examples under this category. Some people are self-employed where they do not work under anyone. In fact they are independent. Self-employed jobs include painters, taxi drivers, freelance writers and various business services. Although there is a risk involved in self-employed jobs, there are numerous benefits inculcated in them such as the freedom, ability to enjoy the profit alone, the possibility to work for a few hours, flexibility and independence. Furthermore, there are also voluntary jobs that are solely done with the aim of social welfare and they don’t aim at making profit.  (Examples: Volunteer photographers, volunteer’s teachers, volunteer content writers, women empowerment, childcare and dhamma school teachers). The United Nations and several other non-governmental organizations like the Red Cross offer several opportunities for voluntary employments all over the world.
