Chamodi named in U-19 WC Team of the Tournament

The 15-year-old from Monaragala, took wickets in all four matches she played for Sri Lanka, including two three-wicket hauls - 3/5 against Malaysia and 3/16 against the West Indies. Four of the India team that won the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup have been named in the Team of the Tournament – along with two players from runners-up South Africa.

 

Gongadi Trisha is at the top of the order, with the most runs and the highest score and team-mate G. Kamalini is also recognised for her batting.

 

South Africa’s Jemma Botha, England’s Davina Perrin, and Australia’s Caoimhe Bray, all of whom scored more than 100 runs over the course of the competition, make up the rest of the batters.

 

India spinner Vaishnavi Sharma leads the bowling attack, courtesy of her 17 wickets, with team-mate Aayushi Shukla and Sri Lanka’s Chamodi Praboda alongside her.

 

Puja Mahato of Nepal gets the nod as the all-rounder, with all her 70 runs scored in one innings and nine wickets taken.

 

England’s Katie Jones is given the gloves thanks to her spectacular nine dismissals behind the stumps and South Africa Skipper Kayla Reyneke is named as the team’s Captain.

 

The Proteas have the added bonus of having seamer Nthabiseng Nini named as 12th player following her six wickets across the tournament. (ICC)
