Norwegian Embassy in Sri Lanka to close permanently

The Embassy of Norway in Sri Lanka will be closed from July 31, 2023, due to structural changes in Norway's diplomatic missions abroad. After the closure, the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, India, will handle bilateral relations with Sri Lanka and Maldives. 

 

 

This decision was announced by the Government of Norway in September last year. It also includes the permanent closure of other missions, such as the embassies in Bratislava (Slovakia), Pristina (Kosovo), and the embassy office in Antananarivo (Madagascar), as well as the Consulate General in Houston (USA). 

 

 

Diplomatic relations with these countries will be managed through alternative arrangements, like having a Norwegian embassy nearby or appointing an ambassador based in Norway for each country concerned.
