SLPP calls for probes into ‘aragalaya’ funding, LPG cylinder issue

SLPP calls for probes into ‘aragalaya’ funding, LPG cylinder issue

The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Government has called for urgent investigations into the funding of individuals who participated in the "people's struggle" to overthrow former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's government.

The people's struggle consisted of months-long public protests, including demonstrations at Galle Face Green in Colombo, from April to July 2022, demanding Rajapaksa's resignation.

SLPP Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando stated that specific individuals who participated in the movement received large sums of money, and authorities must investigate their funding sources.

The SLPP also questioned the sudden cessation of domestic LPG cylinder explosions during Rajapaksa's regime, which ended after his resignation.

The people's struggle was organized through social media platforms, culminating in millions of people entering State buildings and ultimately leading to Rajapaksa's resignation.

Some parties have alleged that the movement was funded by external entities aiming to create instability. Still, prominent figures leading the people's struggle have denied these allegations.
