SLPP rouge element creating division in Govt. ?

According to a senior member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), a group of elected Parliamentarians from the party is attempting to create a conflict between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the ruling party for their political gain. The senior SLPP politician accused this "rogue element" within the party of creating divisions from within.

 

 

The tensions between President Wickremesinghe and the SLPP have grown over the past few months. Recently, there were reports that Wickremesinghe had informed the SLPP that he would dissolve Parliament if they did not support him.

 

 

However, the senior SLPP member refuted these claims, stating that the President had not made such a statement and there was no conflict between Wickremesinghe and the party. They alleged that a specific group of SLPP-elected members had planted this news to create the impression of a dispute.

 

 

The member further claimed that these SLPP MPs circulated the news to imply that the SLPP conflicted with Wickremesinghe to prompt the dissolution of Parliament. According to the members, the intention behind this o discourages SLPP backbenchers who need to prepare to contest an election. 

 

 

These few MPs are allegedly trying to form a separate group for their political future, similar to how they purportedly misled former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and caused a crisis for him.
