Quasi Judge remanded for bribery allegation in divorce case

The suspect, the Quasi-Judicial Judge of Girioya, was arrested on April 21 by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) during an operation. He was allegedly caught in the act of accepting the bribe.

 

According to the complaint made to the CIABOC, the accused had demanded the payment from the complainant in return for accelerating the divorce process involving the complainant's son and daughter-in-law. The divorce ruling was reportedly delivered on April 19 at the Quasi Court.

 

Investigators revealed that the suspect had directly contacted the complainant via telephone and requested that the money be brought to his office in exchange for the immediate issuance of the divorce judgment and decrees.

 

After being initially produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court following his arrest, the suspect was today brought before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded pending further investigations.
