Suspect arrested with weapons, ammo in Wellawaya

A 63-year-old suspect was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) at Wellawaya in possession of a stock of weapons and ammunition last evening, Police said.

 

Accordingly, two unlicensed 12-bore firearms, 22 cartridges, two foreign-made hand grenades, 9 non-electric detonators, a bullet-proof body armor and an illegal knife have been recovered during the raid on a house.

 

The raid was carried out by the STF personnel attached to the Buttala STF camp on information received.

 

It was revealed that the house was old and the arrested suspect is a caretaker of the house and he is a resident of the first-mile post on Ella Road.

 

Wellawaya police are conducting further investigations.
