Expert warns of health risks due to lack of sleep

Sri Lanka is facing a sleep related problem that can lead to various physical and mental health issue due to not getting proper sleep, the Health Promotion Bureau said.
Senior Lecturer, Specialist Dr. Dilesha Wadasinghe stated that not getting enough sleep can increase the risk of vehicle accidents.
She stated that practicing good sleep hygiene can improve memory growth during sleep, and boost both mental and physical health.
She urged that lack of good sleep can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and tuberculosis.
Wadasinghe highlighted that small children aged one year should sleep at least 12 to 16 hours a day, while adults should sleep at least 7 hours a day.
