Over 10 private institutions eager to rent former ministerial bungalows

Following the government's decision to invite tenders for the development of state bungalows previously used by ministers for tourism-related projects, over ten private institutions have shown interest in renting these properties, according to official sources.

Also several government bodies and judges had previously submitted requests for these residences.

When contacted, Minister of Public Administration Chandana Abeyratne said that a committee has been appointed to look into the ministerial and presidential bungalows, and they are currently assessing their values. He also said that decisions regarding the bungalows will be made following this evaluation.

The Minister noted that while various parties have submitted rental requests for the ministerial bungalows, none have been processed yet.

There are nine bungalows designated for the President, situated in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Jaffna, Embilipitiya, Bentota and Mahiyanganaya.

Additionally, the ministry acknowledged that some ministerial bungalows have fallen into disrepair and are no longer usable, citing financial constraints as a challenge in funding the necessary repairs.
