New rules will be imposed to establish a green economy – The President announced

President Ranil Wickremesinghe says it is not solely the responsibility of developing countries such as Sri Lanka to mitigate climate change in the world.

 

He emphasized that developed countries, which are the primary contributors to polluting the environment, should also contribute to the cause through funding.

 

Addressing the Presidential Environment Awards President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that developing countries such as Sri Lanka are not as responsible as the developed countries for polluting the environment. He emphasized that the developed countries are the primary contributors of environmental pollution. Thereby, they should also contribute to mitigating climate change in the world.

 

The Presidential Environment Awards 2021- 2022 ceremony was held yesterday (April 28) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. Speaking at the event he stated that Sri Lanka intends to take the lead in ensuring that the developing economies receive the resources in order to reduce and control climate change. In order to address the issue, he said that he would introduce several new laws to establish Sri Lanka as a green economy.

 

At the ceremony, organized by the Central Environmental Authority, 90 individuals received awards under the main sectors of industries, businesses and projects, institutions, media, and society.
