CID reports facts to court on railway e-ticket scam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that an investigation has been launched into a railway e-ticket scam reported in Ella, Kandy, Colombo, and the Makumbura MMC.

 

The CID informed Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali that they have initiated an investigation into an incident where tickets were purchased immediately and resold at a higher price during the railway online seat reservation process. 

 

The issuing of railway e-tickets is jointly operated by the Sri Lanka Railway Department and Sri Lanka Mobitel.

 

The investigating officers also informed the court that this investigation was initiated following a complaint by the Railway Department to the Cyber Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.

 

The officers further informed court that they will continue the investigations related to this incident and will submit a progress report to court in the near future.
