Duminda Silva admitted to Prisons Hospital again

Duminda Silva admitted to Prisons Hospital again

Death row inmate Duminda Silva has been admitted to the Prisons Hospital, the Prisons Department said.

Silva, who had been receiving treatment at the Prison Hospital, was transferred to the Welikada Prison on January 10. However, he was later admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo due to a sudden complication that occurred while he was in the general ward at Welikada.

Silva had been undergoing treatment at the Prisons Hospital based on recommendations from a specialist at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital. Following a written inquiry from the Commissioner General of Prisons to the Director General of Health regarding the continuation of his treatment, a team of 18 specialist doctors was appointed.

The medical team concluded that Silva did not require ongoing treatment at the Prisons Hospital or any other facility and recommended that immediate treatment be provided only in case of an emergency complication.

Prisons Spokesman Gamini Dissanayake said that Silva was admitted to the National Hospital on the recommendation of the Prisons Hospital doctor due to an unexpected complication while he was at Welikada.

After completing his treatment at the National Hospital, Silva was transferred back to the Prisons Hospital on Sunday.

"The Chief Medical Officer of the Prisons Hospital recommended that Silva should receive further care at the Prisons Hospital," Dissanayake said.

Silva is currently receiving treatment as a resident at the Prison Hospital, and further updates on his condition are expected to be provided on January 15, the spokesman said.
