Police launch investigations into illegal street race in Homagama

The Homagama Police have launched investigations into a street racing event captured in a video currently circulating on social media. The incident is believed to have taken place during the inauspicious time at dawn on New Year’s Day.

The video was posted on April 13 at 11:43 p.m. by a group called Pocket Rockets Club on Facebook.

According to the footage, the illegal street race appears to have started from the pedestrian crossing at Galawilawatta on the High-Level Road in Homagama.

Authorities confirmed that no prior permission had been obtained from any relevant authority to conduct the race. Additionally, the roads had not been cleared, posing a serious risk of accidents.

Homagama Police said that residents in the area had lodged complaints, claiming the race caused significant inconvenience to motorists and the general public.

Police further assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in organizing and participating in the unauthorised street race.
