President denies saying no funds will be allocated for local bodies controlled by Opposition

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today he never said no funds will be allocated for local bodies that are not controlled by the National People's Power (NPP) as claimed by some people.
Speaking at an election rally in Nuwara Eliya, the President said what he meant was that the funds will not be allocated for the local bodies to be misused and looted.
"The central government makes great efforts to collect funds to the Treasury by stopping misuse and looting. If the Local Government body is not following the same policy and misuses funds and loot them, we cannot allow that to happen. I said we will not allow the Local Government bodies to misuse and loot funds," he said.
