Court bans protest near exam centres

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court issued an order prohibiting several individuals from entering or remaining near examination centres where competitive exams are being held yesterday (April 27) for graduate recruitment to supplementary health service courses.
The order was issued following a request by the OIC of the Maradana Police, who cited information regarding a planned protest intended to discourage candidates from sitting the exams.
The court order applies to M.N.M. Nustri, co-convener of the Allied Health Science Graduates’ Union, Nandun Dasharika Hewapathirana, secretary of the union, Madushan Chandrajith, convenor of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) and Ravi Kumudesh, Chairman of the Joint Council of Supplementary Medical Professionals.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, entry into the Hospital Square, Colombo within the Maradana Police Division and any form of protest or demonstration obstructing pedestrian pathways on Deans Road, De Saram Road, Kinsey Road and Regent Street, is banned.
The order also prohibits gatherings near the School of Nursing Colombo and the Post Basic College of Nursing, where the examinations are being conducted.
