Uddika says he was shot at due to ‘existing system’

Parliamentarian Uddika Premaratne said the shooting targeting him was due to the existing system in the country.

 

He told Parliament that police and the CID are conducting investigations into the shooting incident which targeted him.

 

"I think the existing system may have been influential in shooting at me rather than who committed the shooting. We know that this system is wrong. The social system and political system are all wrong. The country is in the present crisis due to this existing system.

 

"Both the people and the political leaderships should work to change the system. We will never be able to bring this country to the level of the developed countries until that change is made. We also appeal to apply that system here. Just because of that, we are being threatened. We, as new MPs will continue to work towards that change," he said.
