A proposal to amend the maximum retail price of eggs

At a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office, it has been proposed to lift the maximum retail price (MRP) imposed on eggs.

 

The proposal was taken up with the participation of respective officials, egg producers and poultry farmers. 

 

The meeting was held with the Presidential Secretary and the secretaries to the Agriculture Ministry and Trade Ministry. 

 

If steps are taken to remove the maximum retail price imposed on eggs, the prevalent shortage of eggs in the local market can be reduced within 15 days, according to egg producers and poultry farmers.

 

Accordingly, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has stated that he would consider submitting the proposal to remove the MRP on eggs to the Cabinet of Ministers soon.
