Two injured as STF opens fire on speeding cab

Two persons sustained gunshot injuries after Police Special Task Force (STF) officers were forced to open fire on a speeding cab that ignored a signal to stop earlier this morning, police said.
They said the incident took place at a checkpoint in Point Pedro Jaffna. The cab had later fled the area. However, it was later reported that two persons had sought medical treatment at the Point Pedro Hospital and investigators believe that they were the occupants of the vehicle.
The checkpoint had been set up by the STF to protect a natural sand deposit from illegal miners in the area.
