Three PUCSL members accede to electricity tariff hike by 66%, chairman opposes

A majority of members of the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) have approved a 66% increase in electricity tariffs with effect from February 15, despite opposition from Public Utilities Commission Chairman Janaka Ratnayake.

With Rathnayake's strong opposition, three members of the Public Utilities Commission gave the green light to the proposal to increase the electricity bill, so it was passed.

On January 02, PUCSL received a cabinet-approved proposal from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) seeking to increase electricity tariffs by 66% to leverage an additional revenue of Rs 287 billion to avoid losses.
