Sri Lanka surpassed 1,000 COVID-19 deaths

Sri Lanka surpassed 1,000 COVID-19 deaths

Now  Sri Lanka has surpassed 1,000 COVID-19 deaths the Government Information Department confirmed. Total COVID-19 deaths in the country is now  1,015, and the popular opinion on social media is that this is something that could have been better managed.

Meanwhile, 2,478  cases have been identified and the infection rate still remains over 2000 per day. 744 cases belong to the so-called New Year cluster that health authorities claim emerged after the Sinhala & Tamil New Year holidays in mid-April.

A popular argument on social media is that the authorities did not take sufficient action to control movements to minimize movements during the festive season and did not take prompt action to handle the situation that emerged after they were made aware that new variants emerged. However many have praised the armed forces for their quick crisis response to create new treatment centers.
