Public Health Inspectors to step away from COVID-19 duties

Public Health Inspectors to step away from COVID-19 duties

The Public Health Inspectors across Sri Lanka will withdraw from all duties in relation to prevention of COVID-19  pandemic with effect from July 17, said the Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka.

The above decision has been reached as a mark of dissaproval of the recent statement made by the Health Minister, who stated that the Public Health Inspectors will not be vested with any power to cause dfficulties to the general public.

They stressed that the PHIs had been contributing their efforts to prevent the pandemic and protect the people in the cuntry with no legal protection and poor facilities.

The aforesaid move had been informed by the Union of the Publich Health Inspectors to the Secretary to the Health Ministry, in writing.
