Navy arrests 38 Indian fishermen

Five Indian fishing vessels and 38 fishermen were arrested by the Navy this morning for trespassing into Sri Lankan waters.

 

They were arrested in three locations -off Jaffna, around Mannar and in Trincomalee.

 

This was the first arrests after an incident in January where one fisherman was killed in a reported encounter with the Navy.

                                      

The arrested persons are to be placed under a two week quarantine programme.
