Mahinda Rajapaksa leaves Temple Trees

It is reported that the former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa left Temple Trees this morning.

Mahinda Rajapaksa has handed over his resignation letter to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

His resignation came after tensions erupted across the island yesterday (May 09) after peaceful protesters camped outside Temple Trees and a group of pro-government supporters unleashed a barrage of protests at the Galle Face Gotagogama protest site.

Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa's resignation has been announced in an Extraordinary Gazette Notification issued last night on the instructions of the President.
