Kushinagar Airport in India opens on October 20 with a flight from Sri Lanka

Kushinagar Airport in India opens on October 20 with a flight from Sri Lanka

The Kushinagar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh, India, will open next Wednesday on a 125-member delegation, including 100 Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka.

Its photographs include two murals at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya by the famous Sri Lankan artist Solius Mendis (1897-1975), which is considered to be the site of the third visit of the Supreme Buddha to Sri Lanka.

Dharmasoka, the greatest emperor of India, the Buddhist ruler, sent both his son and daughter as ambassadors to Sri Lanka to introduce and spread the teachings of the Buddha.

The first mural shows the Buddha's message to King Devanampiyatissa of Sri Lanka when the Arahant Mahinda, the son of Emperor Ashoka, arrived in the island.

The second mural depicts the arrival of Bhikkhuni Sangamitta, the daughter of the emperor, wearing a branch on the right hand of the enlightened Sri Maha Bodhi tree.
