Focus on weather today

Heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are expected in the Galle, Matara districts and in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces while light showers are also expected in the Anuradhapura district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts during the evening.

The Met Department warns that strong winds of 40-50 kmph are possible in the western slopes of the Central Highlands, North, North Central and North Western provinces and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The Meteorological Department urges the public to take necessary measures to prevent accidents caused by lightning and wind.
