First Private Members' Bill of new Parliament handed over to declare the minimum age for marriage in SL

The first Private Members’ Bill of the 09th Parliament of Sri Lanka was introduced to the Parliament by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Premitha Bandara Thennakoon on August 27 (today).
He stated that the said bill was handed over to the General Secretary of Parliament, Dammika Dassanayake, on August 26.
The main purpose of the Bill is to declare the minimum age of marriage in Sri Lanka as 18.
MP Premitha Thennakoon stressed that children hailing from all nationalities are required to be given equal rights, adding that it was essential to immediately establish this law.
