Cardinal says he has lost faith in the government and the attorney general's office

This government and the Attorney General's Department have lost faith - Cardinal His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, has once again expressed his regret over the government's failure to do justice to the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attack.

Addressing a book launch on Saturday (Feb. 19), the cardinal stressed that while protecting senior police and government officials, it was clear the government was hiding the truth behind the attack.

The cardinal alleged that the government and the attorney general's office had concealed evidence presented before the PCOI. The cardinal added that while the PcoI report made it clear that certain individuals knew that an attack was imminent, no action had been taken to prevent it, and that action was now being taken against the Attorney General and his department for questioning.

The cardinal said the government had ridiculed the judicial process by providing security and promotions to government officials, senior intelligence officers and police officers who were aware of the attack.
