A warning to the people in the lowlands of the central highlands

Ranjith Alahakoon, Assistant Director of the Nuwara Eliya Disaster Management Unit said that there will be strong winds with occasional heavy showers in the western slopes of the central hills from last night.
Ginigathhena, Watawala, Nortonbridge, Maskeliya, Hatton, Norwood and Bogawanthalawa areas in the western slopes of the central hills have been designated as areas with strong winds with occasional heavy rains.
Engineers at the Wimalasurendra, Canyon, Laxapana, New Laxapana and Polpitiya hydropower plants said that the water levels in the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs had reached overflow levels due to heavy rains and that the hydropower plants were generating electricity at full capacity.
