The Great White Shark

The Great White Shark

The great white shark, also known as White pointer, The great white or White death, is a species of a Large lamniform shark which is found in the coastal surfaces in almost all major oceans. This large shark is the world' s largest known predatory fish.

As they have been often depicted as fatal to humans, they do not target them as a pray. Many of the attacks are not fatal, the shark only performs test - biting out of curiosity. Humans are not a very good meal to them as considering the shark's slow digestion systems. The male sharks go about 3.5 to 4 metres long and females from 4.5 to 5 metres long. Adults have mass of around 680 to 1,100 kg. Obviously females are more larger than the males.

The great white shark has a robust, large conical snout. The upper and lower lobes on the tail fin are approximately the same size which is similar to some mackerel sharks. The great white displays a counter shading, by a white uderside and a grey dorsal area, sometimes in a brown or a blue shade which gives it an overall mottled appearance. The coloration makes it difficult for the prey to spot this shark because it breaks up the shark's outline when seen from the sides.

Just about like any other shark the great white also have rows of serrated teeth behind the main teeth. Which is ready to replace any teeth that breaks off. Once the shark bites it shakes it's head side to side to help the teeth to saw off the large chunks of flesh. These creatures are carnivorous and prey on fish, cetaceans, sea turtles, sea otters, pinnipeds and sea birds as well. They are also have been known as creatures who eats objects that are unable to digest. Upon approaching a length of nearly 4 metres, great white shark begins to target predominately marine mammals for food.
