2020 General Election : Voting underway to elect Sri Lanka's new Parliament

Voting for 2020 General Election commenced at 7.00 a.m. today (August 5) and it is South Asia's first election since the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

 

The General Election is underway peacefully around the country  and Sri Lanka will elect its new Parliament with 225 members.

 

Polling will be conducted  at 12,985 polling stations across the Sri Lanka under high security provided by over  5,000 Police and civil defence personnel.

 

The election will come to an end at 5.00 p.m. , today.

 

The results of the General Election 2020 will be issued prior to  midnight on August 06 and the results in relation to the preferential votes will be issued before August 7.
