Only one examination a year for all grades from 2024

Starting in 2024, Sri Lanka's Education Ministry is introducing a new assessment and examination system for school grades. The goal is to reduce student burdens, promote continuous learning, and reduce reliance on extra classes. 

 

 

Instead of multiple-term tests, student's marks will be recorded through assessments and added to their final exam scores at the end of the year. 

 

 

This approach aims to reduce the weight of school bags, encourage regular class attendance, and create a more holistic learning experience. 

 

 

The Ministry intends to balance the weighting of exam and modular marks gradually.
