Bus owners provided with relief to maintain intercity passenger services amidst pandemic

The government has decided to waive and release selected charges from the passenger transport bus owners for continuous maintenance of intercity services amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Cabinet of Ministers accordingly gave the nod to waive permit updating charges, penalty charges, tender charges, logbook charges, access permit charges and temporary permit charges for the expressways with effect from March 2020.
The proposal has been tabled in the Cabinet meeting by the Minister of Transport, for providing the aforementioned relief until the end of this year taking into account the prevailing situation.
It has been identified that the passenger bus owners need to be provided with relief to cater their commuters with much better quality and efficient services since they have faced numerous constraints due to the uprise of the second wave of the pandemic, the Government Information Department said.
