Health Min. ‘disappointed’ with health professionals’ ‘critiques’

The Ministry of Health expressed disappointment with certain health professionals, including doctors, for making critical statements about the health sector's problems.
The country has faced deaths from alleged substandard pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines imported without proper quality checks.
The Ministry and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) have been criticized for importing unregistered drugs and vaccines that are causing complications for patients.
However, the Ministry's Secretary, Janaka Sri Chandraguptha, defended their actions, stating that there are provisions in the NMRA Act to import drugs without expert committee approval in emergencies.
The NMRA's Board of Directors grants permission for such imports after thorough evaluation.
