Priya Suriyasena no more

Veteran singer Priya Suriyasena passed away at the age of 80 yesterday morning.

 

Born on 27 October 1944, Priya Suriyasena first gained recognition as a talented local singer under the guidance of his poet father. 

 

His career skyrocketed in the 1970s when his first four songs were broadcast through the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), earning him instant fame.

 

Over five decades, Suriyasena remained a beloved figure in Sri Lankan music, producing some of the country’s most popular songs, including Atha Ranviman, Mata Wasana, Adaraneeya Neranjana, Ratakin Eha, Sudu Paravi Rena etc.
