School uniform material distribution for this year completed - Ministry

 The distribution of school uniform materials have been carried out this year for 10,096 government schools together with 822 government approved Pirivens, the Education Ministry said.

 

They said 4,640,086 students have been granted the school uniform materials with a 12 million metre length of the materials being provided by the People’s Republic of China as a grant. 

 

By now, all the school uniform materials have already been distributed and have also been provided to the school children as well.

 

Provision of the school uniform materials free of charge to the students of Government schools and Government approved Pirivens and lay students have been carried out uninterruptedly since 1992.

 

Vouchers were given to obtain the school uniform materials during 2015 to 2020 and actions have been taken to provide uniform as textiles since then.

 

In 2023, the necessity of 70% of the uniform material requirements have been provided by China and 80% in 2024 have been provided by them as a grant. 

 

This year, close to Rs. 5,171 million worth of school uniform materials have been provided by the People’s Republic of China, as 100% of the requirement for 2025, the Ministry said.
