Train schedules revised to prevent elephant-train collisions

In a bid to reduce elephant-train collisions, Sri Lanka Railways has introduced revised train schedules and new speed limits for night operations in areas where elephant crossings are frequent.
The changes will take effect from March 7, 2025.
The adjustments primarily affect routes between Colombo Fort, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee, with revised departure and arrival times to ensure safer travel for both passengers and wildlife.

Colombo Fort – Batticaloa Route
Train 6011 (Udaya Devi) – Departs Colombo Fort at 6:05 AM, arrives in Batticaloa at 2:49 PM.
Train 6075 (Pulathisi) – Departs Colombo Fort at 3:15 PM, arrives in Batticaloa at 12:03 AM.
Train 6079 (Meenagaya) – Departs Colombo Fort at 11:00 PM, arrives in Batticaloa at 8:28 AM.
Batticaloa – Colombo Fort Route
Train 6012 (Udaya Devi) – Departs Batticaloa at 6:10 AM, arrives at Colombo Fort at 2:53 PM.
Train 6076 (Pulathisi) – Departs Batticaloa at 1:30 AM, arrives at Colombo Fort at 10:10 AM.
Train 6080 (Meenagaya) – Departs Batticaloa at 6:15 PM, arrives at Colombo Fort at 3:30 AM.
Colombo Fort – Trincomalee Route
Train 7083 – Departs Colombo Fort at 9:30 PM, arrives in Trincomalee at 6:08 AM.
Train 7084 – Departs Trincomalee at 6:30 PM, arrives at Colombo Fort at 3:19 AM.
