Local Government polls to be held early next year - Vijitha

The Local Government elections will be held at the beginning of next year, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.

 

Speaking to the media in Kandy yesterday (23), the Minister confirmed the decision, citing a Supreme Court directive that mandates holding the elections without delay.

 

“The Supreme Court has issued a ruling to hold the Local Government elections as soon as possible. However, the necessary provisions were not allocated to conduct these elections this year,” Minister Herath explained.

 

“Hence, the Local Government elections will be held at the beginning of next year,” he reiterated.
