Fuel leaks into upper Kotmale reservoir after bowser overturns

A fuel bowser carrying 13,000 liters of fuel has gone missing after overturning causing a significant spill into the Upper Kotmale Reservoir.
An official from the Petroleum Corporation Storage Complex stated that the bowser was carrying 33,000 liters of diesel and petrol, with 13,000 liters reported missing.
Meanwhile, the bowser was transporting 13,800 liters of petrol and 13,200 liters of diesel to the Kalantran Watta area when the accident occurred en route from Kolonnawa to Welimada.
It is reported that officials from the Kotagala Petroleum Corporation warehouse complex have removed the remaining fuel from the crashed bowser using other bowser vehicles.
However, some of the fuel is believed to have entered water sources used by plantation workers for drinking in several tea estates below the crash site.
The Nuwara Eliya District Secretary has ordered an investigation into the incident.
