Prison Jailer remanded till March 21 for aiding and abetting in Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder

A prison jailer, who was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division over allegations of aiding and abetting the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, was remanded till March 21 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday.
The Magistrate also ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a summary of evidence against the suspect at the next hearing.
The suspect, Manoj Udaya Santha, is a jailer attached to the Boossa Prison.
The CID told court that at the time of the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa the jailer was present near the door. They further stated that although gunfire had been discharged, the suspect had sufficient time to apprehend the assailant but failed to do so, leading to his arrest on charges of aiding and abetting the crime.
Representing the suspect, his counsel argued that he has served in the department for over 27 years without any prior allegations against him and urged the court to consider the nature of the accusations carefully.
