Nancy tracks suspects for one and half kilometers

A police sniffer dog tracked down a man one and half kilometers away from the scene where he set fire to a shop and escaped following a dispute with the owner in the Aluthgama area.

Sniffer dog “Nancy” was deployed to assist the Police who were trying to ascertain persons who set fire to a grocery shop in Yatadola, Aluthgama.

Police had found a torch left behind the shop and suspected that it had been left behind the persons who set fire to the shop.

The Police team’s doubts were correct. The dog led them to a house one and a half kilometers away and sat down near a person.

On questioning the person admitted to have setting fire to the shop. The reason was that the owner of the shop had been regularly reminding him to pay up the debt to the shop over a long period.

Angered by the demand made by the shop owner he had poured petrol around the shop after leaving his torch on the side.

He had sprinkled chilli  powder around location so that sniffer dogs would not be able to trace him.
