CBK complains to EC on misuse of her name in election campaign

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has written to the National Election Commission over the unauthorised use of her name and photographs in election propaganda by the ‘People’s Alliance’ party.

In a letter to the Commission, the former President said that posters and leaflets featuring her name and image have been distributed in areas under the Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha, where the ‘People’s Alliance’ is contesting the 2025 Local Government elections under the Chair symbol.

She clarified that she has no connections with the party and had already instructed them not to use her name or likeness in their campaign.

Despite this, the misuse has continued, which she described as a clear violation of election laws.

She urged the Commission to take immediate action and instruct the party to cease the unauthorised use of her identity in its promotional materials.
