Diesel prices will up by Rs. 63 after 18% VAT: Vijitha

The price of a litre of diesel will be increased by Rs. 63 after the 18 percent VAT is imposed, NPP MP Vijitha Herath said today.

 

He told Parliament that a litre of diesel is now sold at Rs. 346 and it will be increased by Rs. 63 from January.

 

Speaking during the committee stage budget debate on the Ministry of Fisheries, he said equipment used in the agriculture and fisheries sectors will be subjected to VAT following the conditions of the IMF.

 

The MP said the fisheries sector is already in shambles and that the imposition of the 18 percent of VAT will make the fisherfolk's lives miserable.
