UNICEF says that 7 million people in Sri Lanka need humanitarian assistance

UNICEF says its revised Humanitarian Needs and Priorities (HNP) plan estimates that 7 million people in Sri Lanka are in need of humanitarian assistance due to the economic crisis.

This figure later doubled to 3.4 million in November 2022. Since June last year, the UN team and NGOs in Sri Lanka have responded to the Sri Lankan government's request for more support to alleviate the impact of the country's debt and food crisis and drug shortages. HNP was used to respond.
