Severe lightning warning issued

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for severe lightning, today (July 18).

 

The department warned that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several areas, particulary in  Eastern, North-central, Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kurunegala, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.

 

They added that heavy rainfall that will exceed 50 mm is likely at certain places in the aforesaid areas.

 

Temporarily strong gusty winds are also possible during thundershowers. 

 

The public is requested to take necessary precautions to curtail the possible damages that may result from severe lightning.
