Request from sugar importers to release to banks the dollars required for sugar imports

Sugar importers have requested the Minister of State for Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna to release the required amount of dollars to banks to import sugar.

 

Nihal Seneviratne, Vice President of the Sugar Importers' Association stated that by doing so, it will be possible to regularize the importation of sugar and give it a controlled price.

 

He also said that he had discussed the matter with the Minister and the Sugar Importers Association yesterday (27) afternoon.
