Private security agencies are an integral part of Sri Lanka's national security apparatus, says Secretary of Defense

Sri Lanka's Defense Secretary General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne said that the private defense industry is an emerging industry and contributes greatly to national security.

 

As Secretary of Defense, I strongly believe that the members of the nearly 150,000 private security agencies responsible for ensuring national security have become an integral part of the National Security Machine of Sri Lanka.

 

Commenting further with the pioneers of the private security services in Sri Lanka, he said that despite the current economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, it is an emerging industry that is developing across the country.

 

He highlighted the many challenges facing the industry, such as multidisciplinary knowledge of multitasking and technology to perform security and security functions, stressing that “skill development is a critical factor when investing in human capital is essential in preparing for greater responsibilities.
