Lanka Coal Company warns that the coal crisis may worsen

Chairman of Ceylon Coal Company Mr. Shehan Sumanasekara has drawn attention to the fact that if the necessary money is not obtained for the purchase of coal, the operations of the Norochchole plant will continue.
Attending a press conference held yesterday (Feb.04) afternoon, Sumanasekara said that 15.3 billion rupees are needed immediately for the procurement of coal for the coming week, and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) proposes to provide the required amount in dollars.
Explaining the gravity of the coal crisis, Sumanasekara said that while payments for such shipments are usually made in two installments — 30% on shipment and 70% on landing of coal — two of these payments have already been delayed.
