India pays $ 674 for each covid death

The Supreme Court of India has upheld the government's decision to pay 50,000 Indian rupees ($ 674; $ 498) in compensation for every death caused by covid-19.

More than 447,000 covid-19 deaths have been officially reported in India so far.

On Monday, Judge MR Shah said the compensation should be paid within a month of applying to the "closest relatives of the deceased."

The law states that financial assistance of Rs. 4,0000 should be paid to the families of those who lost their lives in a disaster.

Some states, such as Karnataka, have already announced compensation of up to Rs 100,000 for the families of poor families who died due to covid-19. According to a report, 16 families have already been paid.
