Illicit liquor dealers to feel Excise heat

The Excise Department has launched a special operation to crack down on illicit liquor dealers during the ongoing festive season, a senior official said yesterday (April, 14). A total of 1,200 officers have been pressed into the operation that will be carried out throughout the country, he said.

 

The move was aimed largely to curb the sale of illicit hooch that are likely to boom during this period with the closure of licensed liquor outlets, the official added. The Excise operation will be assisted with regional police divisions, he further said.
