Crudia zeylanica is now receiving VIP treatment

The Crudia zeylanica that was thought to extinct is now receiving VIP treatment since it’s rediscovery.
The massive Crudia zeylanica tree in the middle of the Colombo –Kandy high way has been anointed by the Buddhist Monks to prevent it been cut down and environmentalist are fighting hard to save the tree . Meanwhile a number of trees have emerged from around the country.
Six Locations.
Botanists who found Crudua . zeylanica specimens in six other locations have managed to germinate its seeds in a lab.
Botanist Achala Athanayaka ,Deputy Director of the Royal Botanical Gardens is thrilled to found other specimens elsewhere.
“So far we have found C. zeylanica trees from six other locations where some trees appear to be much older than the first,” Some of these were found as a result of a field survey carried out by the Sri Lankan Department of National Botanical Gardens, while others were discovered through tips offered by amateur botanists”
